Set the tone of your house with a magnificent Grandfather clock or hat stand. A fantastic addition to a hall or many other rooms – you’ll even be able to tell when your running late!

Clear away the clutter with a wardrobe, lots of hanging space for your clothes and drawers in many for clothes or other items

Draw sets can look great and be useful to. Start your spring clean early and organise your clothes this year.

A bed frame to match your existing furniture or in a style you love can make a big difference to a room.

A feature piece such as a leather trunk or blanket box look great at the end of beds or under a window, make great storage and a handy seat.

Things to do in Brighton in the rain

It’s definitely winter and looking out the window today it’s not very inspiring to go out of the house at all! However if you do fancy venturing out of the house on a wet and windy day, why not have a look at our list of things to do in Brighton in the rain.

Visit the Royal Pavilion

Royal-Pavilion-in-the-snow-300x300The Royal Pavilion once belonged to George IV and he decorated it throughout in an opulent and theatrical style. You can visit the music room, ball room, bedrooms, kitchens and much more as part of this visit. Fascinating and educational you can get a real feel of how life must have been for royalty in the 18th Century.

The Pavilion was also used as a military hospital in World War One for Indian military troops serving on the western front in France. A photographic display shows how they would have lived and been treated throughout this time

They also have an eccentrically decorated tearoom which is well worth a visit for the decor alone! They also have a  Pavilion Tea Company located on the ground floor selling teas, coffees and light snacks including delicious cream teas.

Voted number 1 by Trip Advisor of things to do in Brighton. For more information visit http://brightonmuseums.org.uk/royalpavilion/

Play an Escape Game

lady cThese are popping up all over Brighton, the one we tried was Lady Chastity’s Reserve at the Black Lion Pub. The aim is to solve a series of clues to complete the puzzle within a one hour time frame. The puzzles range from physical to mentally challenging and the host Gabriel is on hand to help if needed. The room is small but there is lots to explore and this adds to the spooky atmosphere of the game.

Our Brighton Second Hand Furniture Showroom is a Treasure Trove!!

brighton second hand furniture showroom

Our Brighton second hand furniture showroom has been described by one of our lovely customers today as a treasure trove and we just happen to agree!! We have hundreds of pieces of furniture, ornaments, pictures, mirrors, tea sets, garden ornaments to name but a few. We have had customers spend hours looking through the amazing pieces we have in our Brighton second hand furniture showroom. Each piece has a history of its own and many have been around for many more years than most of us! Most of our second hand furniture comes from us completing house clearances in and around Brighton, often when people have passed away or moved away without taking their belongings. Sometimes when we pick up a piece of furniture, it is sturdy, unmarked and functional – we all have furniture like that, it does the job it is intended for and looks fab! However sometimes we will pick up a piece of furniture that just feels full of history – for example we recently had in the showroom an old writing desk, the outside was fairly ordinary but inside you could tell that many people had sat at this desk and used it for writing. We would love to know what they had been writing – love letters? A novel? Newspaper stories? We will never know but we love to dream!

This is one of our favourite things about buying and selling second hand furniture, we love to hear the stories behind some of the pieces. Often their is significance to the family, but they just don’t have room or have changed the style of their house and the furniture just doesn’t work for them anymore. It is much more satisfying for a customer to sell their item of furniture to us knowing it will go to another family who will love it as much as they did,

Our Favourite Cosy Pubs In and Around Brighton

We love a relaxing drink and great food after a long day selling and buying second hand furniture in Brighton. Below are our favorite cosy pubs in and around Brighton

The Ginger Fox, Poynings

cosy pubsOk, we may be a little biased as this is our local, but the atmosphere is lovely and the food delicious! The Sunday lunches are outstanding and often very busy so be sure to book in advance. In the summer the views over the South Downs are beautiful and in the winter the beer garden and views take on a beautiful ‘Christmassy’ feel, especially in the snow.  Best of all they grow some of their own veg and use local suppliers such as Harveys Beer and Ridgeview wine.

The White Rabbit, Kensington Gardens

At the entrance the The Lanes  it makes a perfect place to stop for lunch, dinner or a pint or two. The staff are lovely and friendly with great knowledge of Brighton and are happy to share with you their favourite places to visit. The Fortune of War, Brighton Sea Front

cosy pubsWe love this pub whatever the weather. Even on the coldest, wettest days the Fortune of War is warm and welcoming. Opened in 1882 this is by far the oldest pub on the seafront. The nautical theme is awesome and the interior of the pub is an upside boat with wooden sloped ceilings bit nautical style windows. If you can get a window seat it is the perfect place to watch the world go by. You get unparalleled views of the seafront and the pier.

Black Lion, Black Lion Street, Brighton

cosy pubWinner of the Trip Advisor certificate of excellence 2015 and in the middle of The Lanes. This pub offers great food, live music and attentive staff. A good selection of drinks and a vast menu with some gorgeous food on offer. It can get busy during ‘peak’ hours so we often come for lunch when the atmosphere is more relaxed and reatins it cosy pub feel. THey have also recently started offered an ‘escape’ game on the top floor of the pub which is fun and challenging.
